We
understand, the current Minster for the Environment, Heritage and Local
Government, Minister John Gormley has at last written to the
County Manager in South Dublin County Council asking for an evaluation
to be carried out on the valley lands between Palmerstown and Lucan
Bridge, between the existing area of Special Amenity and the N4/Old
Lucan Road. This to assess the suitability of some or all these lands
being designated a new area of Special Amenity.
This
is a welcome move, however, we
should not be complacent,
there is a long road to travel, and the requested evaluation is only a
necessary
first step in progressing the matter of protection
for this
part of the valley. In the interim, threats presented for the Valley at
Celbridge with the Donacomper proposal still loom on the horizon. Such
proposals would compromise the creation of a full vista of the valley
park, and impact the valleys landscape for miles around. The
whole Valley needs to be protected.

The Wild Weekend:October 5th
To
say this event was a fabulous success is to make the understatement of
the year. Congratulations to all involved in the day, but an
outstanding thank-you to Sheila Prior who made it all happen. Hundreds
of people turned out on a beautiful sunny October day to see and
interact with an incredible range of wild animals and birds of prey. Don Conroy led the artistic events of the
day with drawing lessons and competitons for kids with lots of prizes. The Liffey
Valley Hotel Staff and its beautiful environs added hugely to the
day.
